Phone off or abroad? Vicem still answers your calls.
On a flight, abroad, or with your phone switched off, Vicem still answers your calls on its own number, says it’s an AI, and takes the message.
Built-in call screening runs on the phone itself, so it stops when the phone is off or roaming; Vicem doesn’t depend on your phone at all.
Why doesn’t your phone’s own screening cover this?
“If you’re roaming, phone calls are not screened, regardless of settings.”

“Call Screen won’t screen calls automatically during roaming.”

What does it do while you’re away?
- Works when your phone is off, out of signal, or on a plane.
- Answers in the caller’s language, wherever they’re calling from.
- Emails callers back so they know you got the message, even from another time zone.
- Lets you catch up on every call when you land, with what was said.
- Holds anything important until you say yes, even if that’s after you land.
What do people calling you while you’re away want?
- People calling from home don’t know you’re away; they just want to reach you or leave word.
- Work calls want to know when you’ll be back.
- A delivery or a pharmacy may need a yes or no that can wait for you.
What do callers hear while you’re in the air?
“Hi, this is Sam’s AI. This call is transcribed. How can I help?”
It says nothing about where you are.
How do you set it up before you fly?
Pick a name
Choose your vicem.ai name. It becomes the address of your page and your Vicem’s email, and callers hear your first name.
Forward missed calls, or get a new number
Keep your number and send the calls you miss, decline or can’t reach to Vicem. Or give out a new US number instead.
Vicem calls you to prove it works
It rings your phone once. Decline the call, and when it comes back to Vicem, you know forwarding works.
What does it keep for your return?
- Telling a caller anything about you that you haven’t confirmed.
- Sharing anything private, like health, money or where you are right now.
- Agreeing to anything in your name.
Where you are is never shared without your yes.
What do travelers ask about Vicem?
i.Does it work if my phone is switched off?
Yes. Set your phone company to forward calls when your phone can’t be reached, and those calls go to Vicem even with your phone off.
ii.Will forwarding cost extra while I’m abroad?
Ask your phone company. Forwarding is set up on their side, and some charge for forwarded calls while you travel.
iii.Why not rely on my phone’s call screening?
The phone makers say it doesn’t screen calls while roaming, and it can’t screen anything when the phone is off. Their own words and links are on this page.
Where can you read more?
Switch your phone off. Vicem keeps answering.
