Silence Unknown Callers on iPhone: what you miss
In iOS 26, Silence Unknown Callers is in Settings › Apps › Phone › Screen Unknown Callers › Silence. Calls from numbers you haven’t saved don’t ring: they go to voicemail and show in Recents. Your contacts still ring, and Apple has said numbers you recently called come through too.
The catch: a real person calling you for the first time goes to voicemail as well. Vicem is an AI that answers those silenced calls when you forward your missed calls to it, and tells you who called and why.

What does Vicem do with a silenced call?
Vicem is an AI with its own number. It answers the calls you miss, says it’s an AI, and turns scam callers away.
- Junk calls and texts are handled without interrupting you.
- Spam calls it turns away never count against your minutes.
- Works when your phone is off.
- It tells you who called and why, so a first-time caller isn’t lost in voicemail.
What do people ask?
Does Silence Unknown Callers block spam calls?
Partly. It silences every call from a number you haven’t saved, spam or not, and sends it to voicemail. A scammer showing a saved number still rings, and Apple’s Spam filter is a separate switch.
Will I miss important calls?
You can. Anyone calling for the first time goes to voicemail without a ring: a courier, a new doctor, a school. Forward your missed calls to Vicem and it answers them, says it’s an AI and tells you who called and why.
Where do silenced calls go?
